Jewellery Care

Gemstone jewellery lasts generations when it is worn with a little care.

Wearing

Put jewellery on after perfume, lotion and hairspray, and take it off before swimming, gym work, gardening and sleeping. Stones are hard but their settings are not: claws catch on knitwear, gloves and luggage.

Cleaning

Warm water, a drop of washing-up liquid and a soft brush clean most gemstone jewellery. Rinse and dry on a soft cloth. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals unless you have checked they suit the specific stone — some coloured stones are treated or naturally included and dislike both.

Storing

Keep pieces separate so stones and metals cannot scratch each other: a soft pouch or a divided box, away from direct sunlight and radiators. Chains fastened and laid flat tangle least.

Checking

Once a year, or after a knock, check that claws sit tight around the stone and that clasps and chain links close cleanly. If anything moves or catches, write to us before wearing the piece again.
